As the Outdoor Capital of the UK, this area of The West Highlands offers particular appeal for adventurous romantic couples.

Snow Boarding and Skiing at the Glencoe Mountain and Nevisrange have offered some of the best snow conditions in Europe over the past 3 winters. One of the world’s top locations for hillwalking, climbing and mountaineering the area has some of the best crags, highest mountains and most dramatic peaks, sweeping from 4,0000ft down to the fjord like lochs.

The huge network of Mountain Bike Trails has ensured the region plays host to the Mountain Bike World Cup.

The newly completed Atlantic Cycle Path provides more sedentary biking in stunning coastal scenery, taking in many of the region’s historical sites, including – Duart Castle, Castle Stalker, Old Inverlochy Castle and the dramatic Castle Tioram.

Spring and Autumn sees the Caledonian Forest around Kinlochleven transform into a stunning spectrum of colour with abundant wildlife, with otters, seals, golden eagles and red deer frequently visible.

Walks along the beautiful bays take in some of the most enchanting beaches in the world (particularly the ‘Singing Sands’ in Kentra Bay, Sunna and Arisaig) with a trip out to Ardnamurchan Point, the most westerly points on Mainland Britain not to be missed.

In the middle of all this sits the Ice Factor. Ice Factor is the UK’s Premier Mountain Activity Centre. This 4 Star facility is home to the World’s biggest indoor Ice Climbing Walls, The UK’s Highest Articulated (draw-bridge overhanging wall) and the UK’s Scariest Aerial Assault Course complete with Giant Bungee Swing.

The world class facilities at the multi-million pound Ice Factor are matched by very high calibre, motivated and qualified guides and instructors. During your active romantic break you will stay in the stunning Holly Tree Hotel, specializing in sea food and highland fayre. The Hotel sits on the old pier front with dramatic views down the firth of Lorne to the Isle of Mull.

Suggested Itinerary for your active romantic break:

Day One

Arrive afternoon/evening – Short Hike to Castle Stalker to work up an appetite for your meal at the Captain’s Bistro, where you can relax and watch the sun set on the Western Isles

Day Two

After a hearty Highland Breakfast your Introduction to Rock Climbing & Abseiling. Your instructor will provide all specialist equipment and coach the necessary skills to get you moving with comfort and confidence on a variety of challenging rock climbs.

After a break for coffee and cake you will be lead to the Aerial Adventure Course. Multiple elements, 15m above the ground in a challenging circuit designed to test your balance and nerve.

After a freshly prepared lunch, we move onto Ice Climbing on the World’s Biggest Indoor Ice Climbing Centre. Your instructor will provide you with all specialist equipment – boots, crampons, ice axes, helmets and harness (please bring warm clothing and a thin pair of gloves).

Your session will begin with some coaching on using the front points of your crampons, before progressing onto getting you Ice Climbing using two ice axes. Your instructor will work with you to ensure the session is tailored to your needs with the objective to progress as fast or as hard you wish.

Many couples elect to finish their day at the Ice Factor with a Sauna/Steam followed by a hot chocolate in front of the wood burning stove.

You can elect to eat with us at the Bothan Bar, where we specialize in freshly cooked, organic, locally sourced meals. There is usually live music after 9pm.

Day Three

Relax on the Jacobite express from Fort William to Mallaig.

This short steam train journey (as used in Harry Potter) takes you through some of the most dramatic scenery in the world. The train stops in Glenfinnan – famous as the place Bonny Prince Charlie raised his standard in 1745. The train comes to Arisaig station, where we recommend you disembark.

Stunning silver beaches cover the coast as far as the eye can see. Boat trips are available out to the Isles of Eigg and Rhumm.
